Getting Started
This guide will help you get up and running with AD Permissions Reporter quickly. Follow these simple steps to begin analyzing your Active Directory permissions.
Installation
- Download the latest version of AD Permissions Reporter from our website
- Run the installer and follow the installation wizard
- Once installed, launch the application from your Start menu or desktop shortcut
First Launch
When you first launch AD Permissions Reporter, you'll see the following welcome screen:

From this screen, you have several options to get started:
- Configure a new profile
- Try the Pro version with a trial license
- Register your existing Pro license
Registering Your License
If you have purchased a Pro license or received a trial key:
- Click on the "Register" button on the welcome screen or navigate to Settings > License
- Enter your license key in the provided field
- Click "Register" to activate your license
Successful registration will unlock all Pro features immediately.
Creating Your First Profile
To start auditing permissions, you'll need to create a profile:
- Click "Add Profile" on the home screen
- Fill in the profile information (see Creating Profiles for detailed instructions)
- Save the profile

Running Your First Report
Once you've created a profile, you can generate your first report:
- Select your profile from the list on the home screen
- Click "Generate Report"
- The scan will begin and show a progress indicator
- When complete, the report will display in the report viewer

Navigating the Interface
AD Permissions Reporter uses a simple tab-based interface:
- Left sidebar - Main navigation menu (Home, History, Settings)
- Top menu - Context-specific tools for the current view
- Main area - Profile list, report data, or settings depending on the current view
Quick Tips
Here are some helpful tips for new users:
- Start with a small scope (specific OU) for your first scan to get familiar with the results
- Use custom credentials if your current user doesn't have sufficient read permissions
- Reports are automatically saved to the history for future reference
