Exporting Reports
AD Permissions Reporter allows you to export your permission reports for offline analysis, documentation, or sharing with colleagues. This page explains the available export formats and options.
Available Export Formats
You can export your reports in three formats:
- Excel (.xlsx) - Spreadsheet format for detailed analysis and filtering
- PDF (.pdf) - Document format suitable for printing and formal documentation
- HTML (.html) - Web format for viewing in browsers and easy sharing
Accessing Export Functions
You can export reports from the Table View or Principal View tabs. In either view, locate the Export section with these buttons:

Export Settings
Before exporting, you can configure several options that affect what data is included:

Metadata Options
- Include Metadata - Include report information like domain, scope, export date, etc.
- Exclude Empty Metadata Fields - Skip metadata fields that have no value
Content Options
- Include Group Members - Include group membership details in exports
- Improve Export Performance - Optimize for faster exports with minimal formatting
Exporting to Excel
Excel exports provide the most interactive format for analysis:
- Click the "Excel" button in the export section
- Choose a location and filename in the save dialog
- Wait for the export to complete (a progress indicator will display for large exports)
Excel Export Features
- Multiple sheets - Main data sheet plus Members sheet for group memberships (if enabled)
- Automatic filters - Column headers are set up as filters for easy data manipulation
- Formatted headers - Color-coded and styled header row
- Auto-sized columns - Columns are sized appropriately for their content

Exporting to PDF
PDF exports are ideal for formal documentation and printing:
- Click the "PDF" button in the export section
- Choose a location and filename in the save dialog
- Wait for the export to complete
PDF Export Features
- Professional layout - Clean, readable presentation of data
- Header and footer - Includes report title, date, and page numbers
- Metadata section - Report settings and context (if enabled)
- Landscape orientation - Optimized for data-heavy reports

Exporting to HTML
HTML exports provide a web-friendly format for easy sharing:
- Click the "HTML" button in the export section
- Choose a location and filename in the save dialog
- Wait for the export to complete
HTML Export Features
- Responsive design - Works well in modern browsers
- Styled tables - Clean, readable presentation with alternating row colors
- Interactive elements - Basic sorting functionality
- Self-contained file - All styling is included in the HTML file

Filtered Exports
Exports include only the data that is currently visible in your view:
- Any filters you've applied will be respected in the export
- To export specific subsets of data, apply appropriate filters before exporting
- If you want to export all data, ensure no filters are active
Export Performance Considerations
- Large datasets - Exporting very large reports (thousands of rows) may take some time
- Performance option - Enable "Improve Export Performance" for faster exports with less formatting
- Memory usage - Large exports, especially to Excel, may use significant memory
Common Export Issues
If you encounter issues with exports:
- Export fails or application becomes unresponsive - Try reducing the dataset by applying filters
- Excel file is very large - Consider disabling "Include Group Members" if not needed
- PDF formatting issues - Try enabling "Improve Export Performance" for simpler formatting
Exports are an excellent way to share your AD permission analysis with others who don't have access to the application, or to create documentation for your environment.
